Broken and Beautiful

The Last Supper…Communion..Eucharist…
Eucharisteo is translated “give thanks”. But look at the word again..What is that hiding in the middle?
Char…from Charis or grace AND chara which means JOY.
In The Broken Way, Ann says, “Deep chara is found only at the table of the euCHARisteo, the table of thanksgiving. I am pondering that.
Thanksgiving for what? That God sent his only Son Jesus to die for us, in our place, to be broken and to suffer for our transgressions.
Jesus for the JOY set before Him endured the cross (Heb 2:12)…for us… for you…for me…even for those who do-not-yet-know Him.
When we celebrate Communion we hear, as do many others, a quote from Luke 22:19: “And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

His body…. broken on the cross FOR US. BROKEN.
The bread of Communion broken… for us…
Broken and given…
Wait, it does not stop with given.. we have to RECEIVE too, don’t we?
So often, broken is a huge part of giving. A grain of wheat must fall to the ground and “die” be broken (sort of) in order to produce much fruit. John 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.
We all have places where we cry out “I can’t” Our I can’t may be different at different seasons or moments of our lives, but we all have those “I can’t” times and places. Times when we simply are “not-enough”.

She relates  that to the story of the seven loaves and the fish. Jesus took what was NOT ENOUGH and BROKE it and the miracle took place….it became (similar to the wheat production) more than enough.

What if… what if… the broken places in our own hearts…those places where our heart screams, “I can’t “ were the very places where we receive God’s more-than-enough for ourselves but also to give out to others?

What if broken really is beautiful? What if God is at this very moment using the broken places of our lives/hearts to demonstrate His love, His Care, His Caring, His Provision to us and the world around us?

Be blessed this day where Jesus is MORE than  ENOUGH for our every need.
