From The Heart of Abba Today
Willingly made quiet.
Trusting His love.
Inviting God Himself to calm,
Quiet and still us.
So that we can hear from him.
In hearing, we receive peace,
And strength to go forth.
In quieting our hearts,
We enter the Shalom of God.
We are invited to enter the REST of God. When we are troubled, or in any grief or sorrow we are instructed to “be still” and know. (Psalm 46:10) We are invited to come to him whenever we are burdened or weary (Matthew 11:28). And yes, just like the Israelites so long ago, we don’t. We worry. We try “this and that” and everything else BUT resting in and on God. How sad.
Jesus during His final week on earth went about loving others, healing, teaching, fellowshipping. He knew what was coming but he had a quiet heart.
Isaiah 30:15 For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall you be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: but you would not.
NLT This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it.
God’s Word This is what the Almighty LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: You can be saved by returning to me. You can have rest. You can be strong by being quiet and by trusting me. But you don’t want that.
1 Peter 3:4(AMP) But let it be the inward adorning and beauty of the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible and unfading charm of a gentle and peaceful spirit, which [is not anxious or wrought up, but] is very precious in the sight of God.
Psalm 131:2 Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul;
Like a weaned child [resting] with his mother,
My soul is like a weaned child within me [composed and freed from discontent].
