As We Age (SMILE)

thanksgiving1.jpg

One of the poignant things about aging is realizing those heart longings for what was and/or what never may be.

Perhaps it begins at birth, with a longing for the weightlessness  and provision of the womb.
That I don’t know.
The next could be finding out Santa isn’t real. What a shock that is.
Or perhaps it occurs when a little child enters school and no longer drifts through each day in a sort of seamless timelessness.
I don’t know.

This year it becomes so very real to me once again that people are only for a season.
Looking back through the years to remember those who once lived here on earth with us and were a part of our lives.
Remembering traditions that once were and no longer exist because seasons have changed.
So many people out there feeling alone during the time that begins with Thanksgiving and ends after the New Year.

There is a verse I love. Isaiah 46:4:
even to your old age I am he,
and to gray hairs I will carry you.
I have made, and I will bear;
I will carry and will save.

One thing is sure for those of us who belong to Jesus.
We know the One who knit us in the womb.
Who created us because He desires us and had good plans for us.
The One who will never forsake us.
And the One who will greet us with open arms when our time on earth is done.

Cherish those you love. They may no longer be part of your life one day. We never know if “this moment” will be our (or their) last moment.

It could be as simple the last sticky little boy hug calling you Daddy before he grows up and Daddy becomes Dad. Or the last snuggle in the couch before he becomes too old.
Or as complex as death or a graduation or a cross country move.

God is always and forever “I AM” and Emmanuel.

Psalm 139:13& 16 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
John 14:2-3 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.

Come As A Child

matthew 18-2-4.jpg

From The Heart of Abba Today:

Beloved,
It is I who issue the call to come as a child.

Children get tired.
When they are tired they rest.

Children need comfort.
When they need comfort they will seek out a safe adult.

When you need comfort, especially when your heart is oh so weary,
Pause in that moment.
Still your environment as much as you can,
Then come to Me.

Rest lean on/into My presence.
Remain in that state of surrendered rest as long as necessary.

Linger in My love.
Allow My presence to wash over you,
And to wash from you,
Those cares and burdens you really cannot carry indefinitely.

Tarry with Me as long as you are able.
Do not fear or restrict the emotions that arise.

Verses to Ponder:
Mark 10:15 Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

Matthew 18:2-4 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 19:14 but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Being Fully “You”

sue isa 46-4.jpg

From The Heart of Abba Today:

Beloved, laugh, cry, rejoice.

Embrace the moments,
Whatever they bring.

Don’t simply endure,
Embrace them.

There is a vast difference in enduring and embracing.
When you embrace a moment, whatever it holds,
You are being fully alive,
Fully you.
You are being who I crafted and designed you to be.

Embracing the moments, the ability and desire to live fully alive,
Begins with embracing the truth that I AM is with you,
Caring for you, carrying, and sustaining you,
During all the moments of your life.

Verses to Ponder:
1 Thess. 5:16-18
Rejoice always,
pray without ceasing,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

Romans 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Isaiah 46:4 NLT I will be your God throughout your lifetime–until your hair is white with age. I made you, and I will care for you. I will carry you along and save you.

Changing the “W” in we to “M” in Me

We to Me.jpg

I became a widow about 10 months ago after a time of caregiving. It has been a process of changing from being a “we” to being a “me.

Sometimes I have felt very alone but the one constant has been God. He has led me step by step into a new season of life. This is for anyone who has lost a spouse, a parent, a child, a sibling. In that relationship, the “we” is gone but we cling to the ONE “we” that will never end. God is our forever present Emmanuel.

Since this is a different post, I want to say thank you to my brothers and their wives who have helped me in ways they don’t know and also some dear friends who have walked with me. And my sons, their wives and grandsons.

God is GOOD and I have decided to look forward to whatever good gifts He will send my way during this season of my life.

Rest In His Love

rockswater1.jpg

rockswater.jpg

From The Heart of Abba Today:

Beloved
See those rocks?
The water is washing them.
The water is revealing their hidden beauty.
The water is changing them over time,
Smoothing and polishing them.

I am like that beautiful, dangerous, flowing mountain water.
You are like a rock.

As you submit to My love,
You will be changed, restored, polished,
Both by and in My love.

Just like those rocks remain both changed and unchanged,
So also does the “you” I created become both changed and remain true during your life.

You are uniquely created and designed by Me.
The external will change. Your perception will change. But you, the you I created, will always remain.

Sometimes that process may seem difficult.

In a mountain stream the water level sometimes rises and simply covers the rocks. From the surface all appears gentle and smooth.

Other times, when the water level is just right, one can see white water—even rapids.

At times a portion of the rock is out of the water.

It is always the same rock.

Life in Me is similar. I am Living Water. I control the depth.
All that I do is part of My Love for I am LOVE.

You are being changed and restored.
All of life is being used by Me to reveal the true you.
The one I created.

Beloved, REST in My LOVE.

Who Am I? Who Are You?

There is a difference in WHO we are and WHAT we are.
The world wants to label us with “what”.
Jesus labels us by “who”.

Who we are is positional.
We are who we are because/when/ and if we are “in Christ”

Who we are is internal and incorruptible.
And not yet fully revealed.

Generally as we are transformed by God,
The external , our external, will change.
Meaning our actions and at times even our appearance will change to reflect the internal reality and truth.

People in general will see only the external and will pigeonhole us or label us and react to us that way.

That itself is filtered through their own (often faulty) perception.
We are NOT who or even what anyone says we are.
We are NOT defined by the actions of others either.
We ARE who God says we are.
He is the final authority and the only righteous judge.

The kicker is that often we also label or think of others the same way.
We do not see past the external (the what) to the internal (the who).
We can ask for God’s eyes.

In the Word, way back in Genesis we see a glimpse of the “who”.
Who we are created by God to be is His own precious beloved image bearers.

When we can rest in this, we are in Shalom.
Verses to reflect on:

Philippians 1:6 being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

1John 3:2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Gen 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

2 Cor 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

1 Cor 13:12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Moses reflecting God’s glory from being with God… Exodus 34:29-35English Standard Version (ESV)
The Shining Face of Moses
29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God.[a] 30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. 33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
34 Whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
